Must fly with Southwest by July 31, 2011

Suggestions need for for a not too hot ( weather wise) destination in the midwest or eastern U.S. DH and I will fly out of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.. We can only takea long weekend due to work obligations, so the west coast would not work. We must complete our travel by July 31, 2011, or we lose the money we spent on tickets for a trip that was previously cancelled twice. Thanks.

Perhaps consider flying SW to BWI then connect to a flight to Manchester, NH. Easy enough to enjoy Vermont and NH for a long-weekend. Plenty of outdoor activities in the summer and Mountain areas should be cooler.

Other option could be connect from Baltimore to Long Island Islip Airport. Drive out to the North Fork of Long Island. There are a couple of neat hotels in Greenport, NY and two dozen or so wineries in the area between Greenport and Riverhead. Great seafood restaurants in the area and easy access to the more fashionable Hampton's areas either by driving or by taking ferry from Greenport to Shelter Island.

Certainly easy enough to fly into Baltimore and take the short train ride to Washington. Obviously a lot to see. But, that will come with hot, muggy weather.

Thanks, Ryan. I like your suggestions. Our original plan was to visit DC last September. We had to cancel and rescheduled for early May. Had to cancel that trip also. Both cancellations were due to serious illness by a close family member. We still want to go to DC, but think it will be way too hot in July.

We stayed on the Canadian side, flew to Buffalo, got a shuttle and stayed... forgot the name of the hotel, this would be perfect with a car, but as we didn't have a car, it seemed a bit away from everything.

Let me find my report for more info.

That's a good idea. Niagara Falls, Canada is less than an hour (40 minutes?) from Buffalo airport. Heck, even Toronto is only a little more than 2 hours. Either would be a great, <blue>cool</blue>, long weekend.

We've stayed here - http://www.sheratononthefalls.com/index.php
twice now. Very inexpensive for all you get.

Oh, and get a car. You'll have more options, see more of the area (and good for getting to/from airport).
