multi-island packages
 

Hi,

I see all the time where Expedia, Travelocity, etc. will offer a package with airfare and hotel. But the catch is it is one island.

If I want to save money by buying a package, who sells one that includes airfare to HNL and then a few nights in Honolulu as well as a hotel and potentionally airfare to/on a couple of the outer islands?

Or, if I should forget a package and just buy all the pieces by themselves, that is a valid answer too. I just want to make sure.

We have booked multi-island packages through Pleasant Holidays in the past at pretty good rates.

However, I will tell you honestly that I prefer "piecing together" a package on my own--you get a little more control over things and it usually ends up to be about the same price. Use the internet to get prices then call the hotels directly to see what they can offer you. (BTW, always call the hotel directly and notify them if you are celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary--they will put this information in the computer for your arrival. You have a much better chance of getting fun "extras" if you notify them ahead of time!). Check prices directly on airline sites--try Hawaiian Air, Aloha Air, American Airlines, Delta, and ATA. Internet rates tend to be cheaper for flights. Also, book a rental car ahead of time on the Internet (it's ALWAYS cheapest on the internet), then check a week or two before departure to see if the rate has gone down. If it has, make a new reservation (don't worry about doubling up), then cancel your old one. Hope all this helps!

Thanks for the info- this is kind of what I figured. I have friends who rave over these types of packages but I usually don't see a lot of value there.

What about inter-island airfare? I've read that aloha has a book of 6 tickets at a discount (perfect if it can be used by 2 people) but can't find any info about it. Are there any discounts to be had here?

Pleasant Holidays and Classic Custom Vacations are both good bets to get packages (with added perks) (Pleasant has a $200 credit promotion on your car this year)on all of the islands. I've found that their choices are all good and I never seem to be disappointed. It's also easier than trying to piece things together with air, inter-island air, cars and good lodging. You might win on one and lose on another when you try to do it yourself. You also have someone to come back on if things don't go the way you expect them to go.
