Multi-cloured cave in Bryce Canyon?
 

Hi folks. We four Brits are visiting Bryce Canyon in August 06. We've been before but i keep seeing photos of a cave (purported to be in Bryce) which has the wonderful orange shades of rock striped along the length of the cave. I don't want to visit again and miss out on that view - but the national park website makes no reference to the location. Does anyone know where it is? It's a long way from the UK and I desperately want to photograph it, if that's possible.

I can't imagine what you are referring to. The only "cave" I'm aware of in Bryce is mossy cave which doesn't sound like what you're talking about. There are many indentations in the rock -- sort of cave like -- and most of them will have the orange rock, often striped that you describe, but I'm not aware of any "special" one. Where are these pictures you keep seeing?

Thinking about your question, I wonder if you aren't asking about a slot canyon, rather than a cave. A cave would be so dark you couldn't see the colors unless it was lit, and then it'd be a show cave that the rest of us would know about.

malesherbes - I had the same reaction you did - I wonder if David is referring to a slot canyon? And I second Antelope Canyon near Page. Visit mid-day to see the sunlight streaming through the top.

Thanks guys. I checked out the Antelope site and it's almost the right colour but the photo did say Bryce. Having been to Bryce before I thought I hadn't missed anything - and maybe I haven't. Perhaps the author was wrong in attributing the image to that locale. Not to worry. I'll be there again this summer - can't wait. Beats the wet UK.
