Muir Woods in October

In seeking information on the trails in Muir woods, I am seeing the words "crowded" "mobbed" "heavily trafficked" and tales of an impossible parking situation and even shuttle overloads.
Would this be the case still in the beginning of October? We will be visiting there the middle of the first week (2 weeks from now).
Also we are strollers, not hikers and one member is still not fully recuped from bunion surgery 10 mos. ago.
I was looking at Armstrong Redwoods instead, would that be a better choice for us?
Many thanks!!

Muir Woods I always OK if you get there early in the AM. I generally arrive a little before the official opening time -- the parking lot is open so no waiting or anything. The big crowds don't generally arrive until late morning.

The thing about October -- yes it will be less crowded than July/August because of fewer visitors. But Sept/early Oct is the best weather of the year so many locals will wait to visit until then. But as long as it isn't a weekend, you'll be fine.

If you are staying in SF -- Muir Woods would be easiest. If you are spending some time in the Sonoma area, then Armstrong would be wonderful.
