Mt. St. Helens minor eruption?
I just checked CNN looking for news on another topic, and this headline came up. My computer won't let me watch the video to see what is going on. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Check the NWCN page. They said it was a steam cloud, so it doesn't sound too bad.
|
Thanks! CNN said "eruption" so I thought, here we go again. . .
|
I really like the NWCN for stuff like this. We can normally see St. Helens from our house, but it is too foggy to see anything today.
|
I can't find a thing on CNN about it, but the page mms referred to has a gorgeous photo of the mountain. It is awe inspiring.
Hope everyone out your way is safe, Enzian. |
I saw the steam coming out of it today driving north on I-205 in Portland. Although steam coming out of St. Helens isn't all that unusual, it doesn't happen every day. In March 2005, I noticed the same thing and wondered about the steam. A few days later, it errupted. Coincidence? Hmm...

enzian, that is what we get for living near a volcano, right? lol
a nice little steam cloud is pretty on a sunny day like today, no? :D |
We live near SEVERAL vocanos, Scarlett! :-) Hood is considered active too - it just hasn't been as active as St. Helens in the last few decades...

Hi Andrew !!
lol, I realized my mistake, too late, thank you, and thank you for reminding me lol |
You guys have seven volcanoes around you! I did a paper in college (long before Mt St Helens erupted) about them and the fact that so much building had put so many in harms way now. Cougar WA, will just be buried in hot mud if Rainier goes off the way it did in the past.....
|
Only seven? There are five in Washington, but the Oregon count depends on how far south you want to go. Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters (one volcano or three?). . . Mt. Washington (not sure if that one is considered active).
|
If a volcanic eruption doesn't get us and the floods and wind storms don't, we can always look forward to "the Big One" - that 9.0 earthquake Oregon and Washington are expected to have again in the next few hundred years. Hey, at least we don't have hurricanes!!!
