Mt. Rainier and OLP 8days?
 

Is 8 days a decent amt. of time to enjoy hiking in both Mt. Rainer and OLP at the end of August? Or is the distance between the 2 due to driving time going to be a pain? Is there anything special this yr. that we need to know? How much driving time from Vancouver to OLP or Vancouver to Mt. Rainer, if we fly from EWR to Vancouver? Helpful tips are very welcome! Thanks so much.

I'm assuming you mean Olympic National Park (ONP)? 8 days will give you plenty of time--2/3 days for Rainier, the rest for ONP. You'll probably want to have more than one base in ONP since it's so spread out. Plan on a good 4-5 hours of driving between the two, depending on where you're going to or from in ONP (e.g. Lake Quinault or Port Angeles).

Seattle would be more convenient to either--it's about 2 hours from Seattle to Rainier, and about the same from Seattle to Port Angeles. Vancouver's about a 3 hour drive from Seattle so add that into your calculations if that's where you're starting.

Thanks, thats helpful, what about a ferry transport from Vancouver to Seattle? I think the rental cars are cheaper from Seattle. Is the ferry easy with just 2 people,no car? Where do you think the easiest place would be to pick up a rental car from the ferry stop?

There's no ferry from Vancouver to Seattle--we're not separated by water. You can take a train from Vancouver to Seattle, or drive or fly.

Are you going to Victoria as well? That would involve a ferry from there to Seattle so maybe you're thinking of that?

It might be helpful for you to post your entire itinerary--sometimes context is really important in offering advice.

Just to continue that last thought--for example, if you are planning to go to Victoria, then taking the ferry from there to Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula would probably make more sense than taking it to Seattle.
