Mr. A's Restaurant
 

We're on our way to San Diego this weekend and my MIL has offered to take us to dinner on Sunday night at Mr. A's Restaurant in SD. Several reviews on different websites give it some good/some really bad experiences.

We are late 40's, enjoy casual to dressy -casual dining and heard the view is wonderful.

Thought I'd put it out to all the wonderful Fodorites who always give great advice!

tennis - I have not been there in a while..I recall it being rather stuffy... very "prom" - business dinner type place - not sure but they use to require a jacket for men... the view is lovely.

dawn, have you been there since it was taken over by the guy who owns Mille Fleurs, Bertrand Hug? it's now called Bertrand at Mr A's.

No jacket required, dressy casual is perfect. The view is outstanding.

I've had good food there.

Barbara - No! Wow...see that you learn something new every day. I am a huge Mille Fleurs fan... Tennis go and enjoy!

Go & enjoy it. I just dine at Bertrand's A last month. The view is nice but not breathtaking if you have been on sky rise buildings of the world like Eiffel, Toronto's CN Tower, Hancock tower . Service is good, the food is OK; it all depends on what you order. I had a very good shrimp bisque, though. My steak & desert were mediocre; not as good as those at Mill Fleur's.

Dress code is smart casual. It used to be THE restaurant in town for special treat.

For the same range, I would prefer Valencia in La Jolla or Rancho Valencia in Rancho Santa Fe for great food & service.
