Moving to Wisonsin
 

Hi, I don't know if this is the proper place to post this but I am considering moving from Chicago to possibly Milwaukee. Can anyone give good advice on nice, safe neightborhoods to buy a house and still be close to city activities? I don't want to give up the museum and city life I enjoy in Chicago but want a quieter, safer place to buy a house. I'm single female 30-ish.<BR>Thanks!

Renee,<BR><BR>Milwaukee is a great place to live. As a matter of fact I'm planning on leaving Chicago for there myself too. The north side by Lake Michigan is great. Shorewood, although a little pricey is a wonderful neighborhood. Whitefish Bay, just north is beautiful and a bit more reasonable (this would be my choice). Still really close to the city. Go to these areas, I guarantee you'll love them.

Hi Renee. I've lived in Milwaukee most of my life. I was raised in Shorewood and can confirm that side of town is really nice. Close to the lake and great schools/restaurants/shops etc. I now live in a southern suburb because its just too expensive on that side of town and my house/lot here in Franklin would be cost prohibitive on the north shore or what is commonly refered to as the "fashionable east side".<BR>I have some friends that have a house in Glendale right on the river. Glendale is just west of Whitfish Bay. Slightly more affordable and a great location as well.

I lived in Milwaukee for 3 years and agree that the "East Side" (just north of downtown near the lake) is the place to live if you like the city lifestyle. It is Milwaukee's equivalent to Lincoln Park (although not as nice). When people leave the East Side, they often move to Wauwatosa. It is a suburban neighborhood west of the city that has a lot of character. That would be another area to consider.

Renee, Milwaukee makes milorganite. I use it on my lawn. Maybe someday I'll have the honor of having a little bit of you on my grass!
