Moving to The Cape from the NW
Hi,

Your comments about your moving experience (i.e. moving companies or auto transport companies) or drive across country would be helpful!

Thank you!

|
We drove from San Francisco to Boston 20 years ago. Still have fond memories of the trip.

You won't get many opportunities to drive across this country in your lifetime (unless, of course, you are independently wealthy), so take this opportunity and do it. It's even tax deductible!
|
Hi, thank you for your thoughts. I agree with you. I like a zillion others are unemployed and this would be a trip of a lifetime.

All I have to do is stay on I-90 to get to Boston!

Thank you!
|
Take teton pass across the Grand Tetons.
Watch out for low flying B-52's in the Dakotas.
Count all the billboards on the interstate in South Dakota, run an internet raffle on the correct number, charge a buck per entry...keep 50 cents and pay the rest to the winner. It will cover living expenses until you find a job back east!
|
My apologies...in answer to your direct question.

We were in the same boat, unemployed and moving back east. We sold everything that wouldn't fit in the trailer and drove. Charged the whole trip on Amex and prayed for a job when we got back...it worked.

The best moving company in Massachusetts is Gentle Giant. You might try contacting them to see if they have a truck coming back from the northwest that would take your stuff.
|
Hope you aren't looking for a job on the Cape. There isn't much here. Good luck.
|
Charli is right- there are no jobs here. Nothing. Unless you are retiring, you probably won't like it here. It is dead for 8 months of the year. And the other 4 are miserable. I am only here because my husband fortunately is one of the 10 people that are employed here.

My cousin lives year-round in Truro. Loves it. I'm envious.

Are you paying for the move yourself or is corporation paying for it? If a corp. is paying for it (or you have $$), go big-name, esp. Bekins or Allied.

Re:drive vs. auto-transport. Have you seen our country? If not, I'd take the week or so to see things you probably won't have the opportunity to see again, since it will take your furniture at least that long to get there anyway.
