What are the good suburbs to move in the New York city where there are good neighborhoods and nearby market? I've been checking out areas in and around but cant seem to get any solid info on the web. What areas should I narrow down our search ? I'll prefer to be closer to train station

I am overwhelmed with the options that are out there. Can afford a house upto 800-900k.

There are many suburbs are NY, near commuter lines.

1. Depends on where you work.
2. School districts.
3. Interests.

You must decide whether you want Long Island, New Jersey, Westchester, or Connecticut.

After that people can be more helpful.

I think you might need to visit and rent somewhere first to find out where you want to live. The NYC suburbs are NOT something you can find out from the internet--the same as any place in the world you might move to.

Property taxes in NJ, Westchester and LI are very high. Have you figured out the cost?
Why are you choosing the suburbs? What is it that you want in a house or neighborhood? Have you been to any yet?

What are you bring to the table - spouse, kids, furniture, dog, car, etc. If none of the above or very little of the above and assuming you are working in Manhattan, then I would rent for year in Manhattan. New York is like no other place and options are nearly unlimited.

I agree with the post above. I would rent for one year. And try to be close to where you are working.

After you get a feel for life in NYC, get settled in with employment, then you can decide if you want to try to pony up for Manhattan long term &/or just how far out you are willing to go to purchase a condo or home.
