Moving to Mercer County, NJ
 

Hi, I am moving to Mercer County NJ and would like advice on which towns you would recommend? I work in NYC so being close to NJ Transit is vital. Also looking for safe affordable place. thanks!!

Planning on buying or renting? My sister lives there. Very high real estate taxes and car insurance.

Why are you moving to that particular county? Must be some reason you picked it.

Assume you already know about the NJ Tranist options by looking at their website, right?

I agree with vjblovesitaly about the real-estate and car insurance, however they are expensive all over NJ.

Mercer county is not that close to NYC...it is located half way between Philadelphia and NYC.

NJ Transit has stations in Princeton and Hamilton. Princeton is a very nice town. I also used to have a friend that lived in Plainsboro which was a nice area.

If you are commuting to NYC everyday, it will be a long commute.

Im picking that area because of its convenience between Phila and NYC. does anyone know Lawrence Square Village? is it a good area? safe?

Actually the area is not convenient to either NYC or Philly in terms of a daily commute - esp if you don;t work near Penn Station. If you work in the east 50's for example - or downtown - it can take another 30 minutes out of Penn Station - or 4 hours a day commuting.

It may be convenient in terms of day rips for activities - but for daily commuting I would pick someplace much closer to your job.

LoisLane - Lawrence Sq Village is a safe area. It's fairly close to the very commercialized Rt1, Quakerbridge Mall area. OTOH it's not far from Mercer Co Park in the other direction, which is a fairly large park.

It's pretty convenient to the Hamilton train station and I-95, since you'll be commuting.
