Moving to Mass
 

My wife and I will be moving to Mass. early next year with our small apt. belongings and our two cats. We want to drive and make a vacation out of it by seeing the US, we are thinking about an RV or a camper rental for a one way trip. Any help would be great!

A one way trip to MA from ?

Oh ya,duh! sorry,,,from San Diego,CA.

How early would "early next year" be? If it's still during cold weather, unless you were going a southern route, it might be a cold trip especially at night.

We have talked about doing the same thing. Would what we saved on motels and meals be offset by the price of gasoline and good RV camp sites? We decided that the difference was not worth the hassel of trying to drive and park a RV or camper in the places that we would like to see. But if I had two kitties to worry about, it might be worth while.

HI, by early next year, do you mean in the potentially snowy times? That would change things a lot...My fantasy has always been to take a leisurely drive on the "blue highways". But if you are traveling in the winter, you will probably need to stick to the interstates. However, I must also add that my fantasy never included all my belongings and two cats!! :) That is another consideration as well....Sorry I cannot help w/the camper, RV aspect, but I know that others will be more knowledgeable. Also, there may be another website that specializes in RV travel??

Thanks for the replies so far, we are thinking springtime to avoid bad weather,,,I have visited RV websites for costs, we are also thinking about having our belongins shipped and renting some sort of Van or SVU with maybe a small sleeping space for naps and to take the kitties and see the sites with some inexpensive hotels on the way. We also have camping equip. to help offset the price of hotels.

Hi--then my blue higway suggestion holds--you can look in the library and bookstore for guides that suggest alternates to the expressways....also take a look at the Stern's (?) book, Road Food--Good Food for great suggestions for off the beaten track eateries. Just their writing style--a married couple who have spent 25 years doing what you plan--is such fun that you feel you have been to the places, and there may be some that are on your way.

Hope you love MA!! We moved here as "kids" in '71---with all our belongings in a rental truck and no place to live, figured we would find one before we had to return the truck--we did!! :)---MA is a great place!

Not to put a kabosh on your trip, but spring in MA can be anything from 60 degree weather to a 24" snowstorm (there was one several years ago on April 1st). Are you ready for winter weather since you're coming from San Diego?

I was born and raised there, so I haved lived thru it, am I ready to adjust again???,,,,probably not, I'm sure I will be a winter wimp since living here in Shangra La for so long, just something I will have suffer through I guess!
