I live in Louisville and was privvy to the whole OJ thing. It was pretty tough to call it racism when he had NBA players in there!
One note about Tropicana....the last time I was there the food was great but there was so much smoke in the place I felt sick. The way it is set up, there's no way to separate smoking area from non. I will never return. As I mentioned, all Cinci restaurants are smoke free. |
Yeah - German Pizza. That was the name of the place. I was stationed near Cincinnati in the late '70s and lived in Finneytown, a Cincinnati suburb. German Pizza was not far from that. A specialty was the Reuben Pizza made with a rye dough and topped with tomato sauce, corned beef, swiss cheese and sourkraut. Sounds awful - tasted great. They also had huge burritos, kind of unusual for a pizza place. BTW, I don't know if it is still the case, but Finneytown had terrific schools.

Reese, yes I love the one at Harper's Point, too, but it's so far away from me!! I'd rate that one the 2nd best.
Never heard of German Pizza, either. Mr. Connolly's best friend grew up in Finneytown, basinstoke2, and I don't think he's ever mentioned it. In checking yellowpages.com and anywho.com I find no listing for it. :( But that doesn't mean it's not now under a different name! |
Hi,
Well welcome to Cincinnati! I have lived here my whole life and I am moving to Memphis! I would suggest with kids living in Anderson. Great public schools and VERY safe! Not trying to be annoying but our house is for sale! We live on a cul de sac walking distance from grade school, junior high, and park! Its a four bedroom with a finished basement! You should check it out : ) Good luck with your search and you will love Cincinnati! |
I'll check out your listing in Anderson. What agent are you going with? Thanks
|
Whoops! Ha ha ha. Well, anyway. What is the weather going to be like in mid Oct. Do I pack for cold weather or hot weather? I know I can watch the weather channel...but you locals know better. Is the Blue Ash area rural or urban? Are you a dry state on Sundays? Thanks for all the advice.
|
Blue Ash is actually a mixture of both. That's one of the strange things about Cincinnati is that you'll travel through heavily wooded areas to get from one part of town to another (i.e. Reading to Blue Ash). It's really incredible and you're still inside the city proper.
Not completely dry (like Ky); you may purchase alcohol after 1pm. Weather in mid-October? Most likely chilly but we may get hit with Indian Summer 2 weeks then. |
I was wondering if anyone could tell me about Serpentine Wall, Fountain Square, and recommend a nice shopping area for tourists. All the restaurants you've suggested sound great...are the Jeff Ruby places going to be kid friendly? We like to experience the gourmet as long as they allow kids. Thanks

I have lived in greater Cinti since 1959 ... in all areas (N-S-E & W). I now live in Deerfield Township which is a wonderful area (imo). I am just outside the city of Mason which has wonderful schools, yet do not pay Mason city taxes! Work with your realtor - the company should have tons of information about the different neighborhoods. We have a WIDE variety of nice neighborhoods - so it depends on your preferences. Old and charming - or newer and "progressive". Check out Deerfied Township - we're north of Cinti but only 1/2 from the river (downtown). http://www.imaginemason.org/index.php

Jeff Ruby's places in Northern Ky allow smoking so I wouldn't do that to my kids, personally. I've been to 2 of his places and the food and service were top notch. We're going to his Belterra restaurant next month. He's a real "hand-on" owner. However, his restaurants are certainly designed for children. I'm not saying they are not allowed, but there is a definite adult feel in all areas. And don't try to bring any hommicidal types either ;-). |
As far as shopping, I guess it depends what you are looking for. There are your regular malls around the city ( Kenwood, Tri-County, Rookwood, etc..)
There are outlet malls in Kentucky & just south of Columbus. If you like antiques, there are nice shops in Lebanon & Waynesville. Waynesville holds a HUGE Sauerkraut that is coming up mid-Oct. |
So where did you end up? I can't believe I missed this thread!! I live w/in Symmes (Sycamore schools), just around the corner from Dewey's. SOOO many really good suggestions and recommendations on this thread!!! I'd second the rec for my area or Mason - Anderson is fine, but you don't have the diversity there you have in the Mason or Sycamore school district.
Growing up in the same area I live in now, I always had Aglemesis from the one in Montgomery - didn't start eating Graeters until I lived in the Hyde Park area after college. Now there is a really nice Graeters in Mason as well - I grudgingly admit I prefer it to Aglemesis. Graeters mocha chip is to DIE for!!!!!!!!!!! |
