Moving to Atlanta...

I'm moving to Atlanta for the Spring to intern at the Carter Center next week. I'm living about 2 miles away from the CC, and have never been to Atlanta. Very excited!

Any suggestions on local favorites? Restaurants, coffee shops, singles places, bars, etc? I would love and appreciate any advice on places to go and things to do while I'm in Hotlanta.

Many thanks!!

So MANY. Depends on what you like.

Don't know much about singles places but here are ideas..

- Virginia Highland- fun places- Murphy's for brunch. George's for trivia; other hamburger place right by it- good.
-- good thai and sushi- Harry & Son's.
-- Osteria- good- very family oriented.
-
others-
Figo- great.
Taqueria del Sol- great too.
-
Rosa Mexicana- bar seems hopping there. good food.
Near where you willlive--
2 URBAN Licks-- hot restaurant and bar- go there. loud.

buy a zagat's.
buy anatlanta mag- look it up online.
- AURORA coffee- the best-- in va. highland.
-- alon's -- incredible bakery.

EATZI's-- great lunch place. also for gourmet deli and to go .

oakland- has a cute square-- also- universal joint- good burgers.

you will be near a wholefoods. home depot. etc...

eats- right there- good food- very affordable.

You will be in the midst of "what happening" in Atlanta. Little Five Points with an alternative groove. Virginia Highland for the artsy urban side. Midtown's revitalization with a new urban energy. Don't know where 2 miles away lands you, but it's a great area in which to live. Congratulations - and enjoy Atlanta.

Definitely walk around VA Highland. Lots of interesting restuarants and boutiques. However, you will be close to Decatur, which is small town inside the perimeter. Check out Eddie's Attic for music, Java Monkey for coffee or wine, Brick Store for beer, Twains for pool. Keep an eye out for local happenings like street fairs in VA Highland and Decatur. Go to a Braves game and the aquarium. Martinis and IMAX on Friday nights at Fernbank Museum is a good date place. Jazz night at the High Museum is fun. The Carter Center is on a good bike path, too. Also, I have to agree with signmeup, check out the singles group at whatever demonation of your choosing. They are very popular in Atlanta.

Are you coming from Austin? (your screen name....) If you're working at the Carter Center, you've got a couple of close choices and they greatly depend on likes and lifestyle. Nearby Midtown is home to both the arts distrcit and the gay district. Folks who live here love it, but it can be a bit seedy at night.

Another option is Decatur, which reminds me a lot of Austin (thus the question about originating city), kind of in the way that they say "Austin isn't Texas".

Try http://www.hotelsbycity.net/blog/usa/georgia/decatur/ for more info on Atlanta and the different neighborhoods.

A first time poster revives at least 5 posts in less than 20 minutes and gives the same link?

Could this be a commercial promotion?
