You might get better response if your title included where you are moving TO, not from. Also what city or area of Maryland.

Montgomery County has pretty good public schools (and high taxes) and your transportation issue should be paramount: with the Metro, perhaps Rockville.

Suggest you carefully assess travel times. Rockville? Rush hour? Hwy. 70/270. No, I don't think so. Take a look at Metro lines ... e.g., red. Useful input before you decide.

Aberdeen is a world away from Silver Spring, in both distance and lifestyle. Silver Spring is near D.C.; Aberdeen is a small town on other side of Baltimore. Very different type of life in the two places. Do you know the nursing job situation in both places and pother MD locations, regarding opportunities at hospitals or clinics or whatever situation you want to work in? If it was me, I'd check out the job market and potential places to work first. That would give me an idea of where to live. I am an RN (still licensed but not doing clinical work) and for me, if don't like the job, it wouldn't matter where I lived. If you decide where to live first and move there, you could end up getting a job with a terrible commute.

Hi there--my husband and I moved to San Antonio from Maryland over 16 years ago. Re: Aberdeen, on the plus side there's a train station you could use to commute into Baltimore or D.C.-both the MARC and Amtrak trains stop there. I was told during my last visit to Maryland in November that the station is due to expand thanks to an influx of 20,000 people being relocated due to BRAC.

ann marie if you don't mind since we live in the same city now...we've decided on silver spring instead of aberdeen...do you have any suggestions or know anything about ss?
|
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of information for you. Briefly I researched SS about a year ago because my husband was looking to transfer to Bethesda but it didn't work out. The Metro and MARC have stops there which is great for commuting purposes. We lived in Rockville, MD for a time and then Laurel, MD before moving to TX. Personally, having known people who have lived in SS and having lived around that area, though years ago, I would definitely consider a move there--actually, we did! I think the location is great, situated between Baltimore and D.C., and housing is more affordable than Rockville or Bethesda--the houses I looked at in SS were about double what we paid in S.A. and the lots were larger. It's far more congested in SS that it would be in rural Aberdeen. Sometimes when I go "home" I'm a little overwhelmed by all the people now but hey, that's life in the big city ;-) Sorry I can't offer you more assistance. Good luck and best wishes.
