Moving from NJ to CA

We are moving in October and need to find a service that will take our car from NJ to CA. We don't want to drive it or have it driven. Has anyone ever done this or know of any companies that do? Thanks!

I have two friends who have done this - one from Long Island and one from Boston. I'll try to get the names for you, but I know that it cost around $1500.00.

We've shipped cars regularily from various states for several years. Price depends on whether you want a shared transport or an individual truck (open flat bed or closed van). Think in terms of $1500 to $3000.

You'll find listings in the yellow pages under Auto Transports. Most auto transporters are "independant truckers" making continuous trips around the country much like furniture movers. The numbers listed in the phone book are generally local "booking agents" who will schedule someone to pick up the vehicle. You could use a locally based driver but then you'd have to pay extra for the "dead head" back to the trucker's origin.

We moved twice in 2 years from NY to Fl then to Or.
We used an outfit in NJ that carried vintage cars down to Palm Beach every season-they would have taken ours ( not vintage) with the rest of our belongings.
The second move was Allied and they would take the car too..right in that huge truck along with the rest of our furniture etc.
Ask your moving company :)

Congrats on the move!

Scarlett, do you remember what they charged you?
