Moving from Ga to UT
Hi, I am moving from Augusta, Ga, to South Jordan, Ut. I will be driving my 4x4 Silverado 1500 with new winter tires on it. I am leaving February 3rd and will only be day driving. Need tips on how to get there, google maps is taking me up to 80 or 70 but 80 is currently closed at the moment and I know 70 closes too. If I could avoid extremely harsh roads that would be great. Any advice for better ways to get there would be much appreciated! Thank you ahead of time.

Can you make it from Augusta to Memphis in a long day (via Birmingham)?
From Memphis it's I-40 all the way through Albuquerque to Gallup NM, Gallup north on US 491 to Monticello and US 191 to Moab. Since you are moving, I'm guessing you may have a pretty heavy load in the bed of the truck. Albuquerque would be a good place to stop for the third night with a good chance of getting at least to Moab or Green River for the 4th night. |
Actually there will only be 5 50lb bags of gravel for weight and needed traction if so. I have a moving company.

I did look at that route but from abq to SLC looks sketchy

I live in Park City, ski town. SLC is surrounded by mountains so there is no way to avoid some high elevation winter driving. I would suggest the southern I40 route as your best option. Allow some extra days for the trip so you dont have to drive through a snowstorm. If the weather and roads are bad, you can stay over a day and continue once the roads have been plowed. FYI, we are finally having a real winter after years of severe drought. Ive been doing more shoveling this year than I have in the last 7 years combined! Yeah! |
If there is snow in Gallup NM, follow about 4 minutes behind a snowplow truck. You might have to wait a little while at the state line for a Colorado snowplow to get to Cortez.
