Movies on the beach on Waikkii

I saw a previous post in which someone metioned that they show movies on the beach at night. Does anyone know details? Like what hotel does this and is it open to the public?

The city pays for it, with some private sponsors as well. It is totally free....just bring your beach chair and pick up a picnic dinner.

The screen is ON the beach at the Kapiolani Park end of Waikiki. The movie starts as soon as it is dark enough, but there are art booths and food booths that start earlier.

You can sit on either side of the screen...just make sure not to sit too close to the water in case the tide is rising!

If you sit on the back side of the screen, all the writing will be backwards, but the it's a bit less crowded and has both grass and sand areas.

Thanks! I think my kids would love to do that one night! We're staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, can you tell me where Kapiolani Park is in comparison to our hotel?

It's called Sunset on the Beach and you can find dates and movie listings here:

From HHV, it's about a 15-20 minute walk.

The city also sets up many tables and chairs on the jetty for the movie, if you get there early you can nab one of those. I like it when I am visting Waikiki on a weekend, those tables are a great place for morning coffee!

Thanks so much for posting this info and the link. I checked out the site and it looks like we'll have a couple of good movie options for our stay next month! A beach picnic and movie..now that's gotta be one of the best activity deals in Hawaii!
