Mountain passes open early in Colorado

Due to the low snowpack this year, some of the high mountain passes are opening early, per a recent article in the Denver Post. Independence Pass from Twin Lakes to Aspen opened May 11 as did Cottonwood Pass between Buena Vista and Taylor Park Reservoir. Guanella Pass, between Georgetown and Grant, opened on May 4. Kebler Pass between Gunnison and Somerset opened last week
Twenty-seven miles of Trail Ridge Road, or U.S. 34 that links Estes Park to Grand Lake, is still scheduled to be closed until May 25. Mount Evans Road in Clear Creek County from Echo Lake to the summit will be open sometime during Memorial Day week.

Just heard on the local news that Trail Ridge Road through RMNP opened today.

Definitely earlier than usual. Thanks for the update.

I'll make sure 6abc is aware of this, per the other thread.

Wow, Independence doesn't usually open before July 4. I feel a roadtrip coming :)
