Mount Rushmore Travel Suggestion During Pregnancy (2nd trimester)
Hello,
I would like to get some guidance whether it is ok to plan a 3-4 nights trip to Mount Rushmore. We plan to travel some time in July when we will be 22-24 weeks pregnant. This is our first pregnancy. We were concerned if there will be lot of walking or is everything accessible via car. How are the facilities there? Please provide alternatives closer to KS or even if we should not travel at all. I will have to convince her for a staycation in that case :) Thanks, Dharmesh |
Unless her doctor has restrictions on her activity you will be fine. There is not any more walking than you want there to be.

You should get some walking in anyway. You could drive around Badlands. You would be fine on a couple of the cave tours at Jewel Cave or Wind Cave. You could drive around Custer State Park. Mount Rushmore itself isn't that much walking.

Walking is good for you when you are pregnant--and take your husband along with you too. (Unless you are a female same-sex couple, only ONE of you is actually pregnant.)
There are plenty of non-strenuous walks that you can do in the Black Hills. The only restrictions you should have on walking and travel are those that are imposed by your doctor. Otherwise--go for it! |
I always suggest Custer State Park for lodging. The scenery is great: http://custerresorts1.rtrk.com/?scid..._id=5886997025

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, Dr has advised her to walk but with breaks and not sit for more than an hour. I wanted to make sure if the walks are not rocky and whether we'll be walking more than a mile or two.
Looks like we will be able to visit Mt Rushmore. |
