Mount Desert Island, Maine restaurants

A quick overview of where we ate during out 10 days on MDI

Breakfast
Morninglory Bakery Cafe is our favorite, we prefer quick, smallish breakfasts. Good pastries, bagels, and coffee. Their egg sanwichees on bagels are really good.

Jordans is great for a diner-style breakfast. This place is bigger than it looks, and the
service is fast.

2 Cats is well-reviewed, and we finally had a breakfast there. It was fine, but not
someplace we'd go again. I hate leaving so much food, and while I like bisquits, I don't
think they work for everything (such as eggs benadict).

Little Notch Bakery has opened a shop in Bar Harbor, apparently to sell day-old pastries
as fresh. Pretty disappointing.

Take-out Sandwiches
Morninglory Bakery Cafe makes great sandwiches (love the curried chicken), but choice
is limited, and they tend to be messy, so most days we get sandwiches at Cottage Street Bakery Cafe to pack in our daypacks (we spend the day hiking).

Dinners
All these places are good for walk-in everyday meals:
Finelli's Pizza, Elsworth
Rosalies Pizza
Lompock Cafe
Thirsty Whale

Mainely Meat BBQ at Atlantic Brewery was pretty disappointing. Really bland, no
noticable smoke taste.

Two favorites
We're tried the other "famous" lobster pounds on MDI, but our favorite remains Trenton
Bridge Lobster Pound.

Cafe This Way remains our favorite nice, but not quite a splurge restaurant in BH.

Splurge Dinners
Mache Bistro (first visit) was good, but somehow didn't grab us.

Burning Tree was a second visit, and as good as we remembered. This is a good place if you like things a little out of the ordinary. The chef does a great job with flavors that
are unusual, but not at all "wierd" if that makes sense.

Red Sky in Southwest Harbor (first visit) was our favorite of the trip. All-around excellent, and very comfortable, friendly place.

Other food
We continued the tradition of tea and popovers at Jordan Pond House after one of our
hikes. Perfect

Any night we didn't have dessert at a restaurant, we stopped atMount Desert Island Ice
Cream. Also perfect!
