Motorhome travel
I intend to travel from Ireland to California next June with my wife and 12 year old son. We have hired a travel home for thre weeks vacation and would greatly appreciate any help with planning our trip. Are there any places you cannot take a motorhome? How far can we comfortably travel in three weeks? Any suggestions regarding camp grounds etc? All information will be greatly appreciated.

Let us know where the trip will begin in California. Also indicate what are "must see" places to visit. In three weeks you could consider spending a week in California and the rest of the time touring the southwest if interested in seeing some of the best of the national parks in the US

Do Not Take a motorhome into San Francisco. Definitely see Yosemite National Park you can make camping reservations on line. www.nps.gov The campgrounds fill up fast, so be sure and make your reservation on the first day possible. I would recommend you purchase A Woodall's North American Campground Directory - Amazon.com has it for around $16 and it is loaded with information. Have fun.

Our journey starts in Los Angeles and finishes in San Francisco. We would also like to travel further east into Arizona and Nevada.

Important issues that will influence advice you get==
Have you traveled in motorhomes ??
What size is the one you will rent??
Yosemite is great idea--the falls will be beautiful and cannot stress too much the need for early reservations.
In the past accomodations can be fill ed 3 days after the reservation site opens-formerly when we had to reserve by phone everything was filled in 3 days!!!
There are places for motorhomes near Disneyland and California coast
( especially San Diego) has some great places that is why you need a directory.
there is a good web site www.rv.net you can write questions and experienced travelers will give advice. I've used it a lot with good results.
Hope this helps.
Keep in mind that parts of California, Nevada and the Southwest can get VERY hot in summer==100 degrees is not uncommon.
