motels at Charleston area beaches

Looking for a spot for a family vacation at the beach near Charleston. Are there any small motels at any of the beaches? So far I am only finding expensive condos/villas and a few large motels. We need 2 rooms if it is a motel setting and would like to be on the beach. Not willing to spend much more than 100.00 per night. A house would be ok if it within a short walk to the beach. I am unfamilar with the area and my research is not showing anything like small motels.

It depends on the time of year you want to do this vacation. I suggest you go to google.com and enter Fripp Island (Beaufort), Wild Dunes, etc. There are motel listings. If you are saying you only want to spend $100/night for both rooms I think you will need to look elsewhere. And that will not give you a walk to the beach--it will be a ride.
Most beach resort areas no longer have the "small motels"--it is large and sprawling now and not inexpensive unfortunately. Up in NC around Kure Beach you may find budget accomodations after Labor DAy. Or even in Myrtle Beach there may be some budget accomodations.

Just opened my mail and Litchfield, SC is having a tremendous sale on their varied beach properties beginning right now. Look at google.com for Litchfield Inn--they are a hotel right on the beach. Not the newest place on the coast but an excellent value.

Should add that Litchfield (Pawley's Island) is about 75 miles north of Charleston.

Thanks very much for your help. No, I wasn't planning 100.00 for two rooms, lol. That would be a bargin. We are planning for next August and want to explore Charleston as well as spend a week at the beach.

Hi Linda

Check out the Holliday Inn (not to be confused with Holiday Inn) in Folly Beach, SC. Rates start at $95/night.

www.hollidayinnfollybeach.com

I have stayed at the two "l" Holliday INn on Folly. It is very small, I imagine it's a good thing you are planning for next year. It's tolerable, but very...quaint.

Perhaps if you check with Fred HOlland realty ...you could find a house for rent a couple of streets off the beach (everything on Folly is walking distance) that would work out to less than $200 per day. For example, my brochure (although two years old) shows a 2nd row house on stilts (ocean view) with two bedrooms for $700/wk! I stayed in a nice OCEANFRONT house in 2000 with 3 bedrooms and a large screened porch that rented for $1350/wk. The key is you have to not mind if the house you pick out doesn't have a lot of "curb appeal" I have rented 3 different houses on Folly, none were the beautiful ones you dream of buying with that lottery money, but all were quite acceptably furnished and clean.
