Motel/Hotel in North Santa Fe?
 

We'll be spending 3 nights in Santa Fe from 20 October. We'll be driving into the city from the North (from Farmington), plan to spend one day exploring the city/Plaza area and one day driving the loop around Taos. Does it make sense to find a place to stay on the north side of the city instead of motel row on Cerrilos? We're not interested in an expensive hotel near the plaza. Suggestions welcome!

I don't think it makes much difference; Santa Fe isn't that big and is easy to navigate.

Best to stay on Cerillos. There's a regular bus going to the center of town near the Plaza.Paul

Take a look at the El Rey Inn - elreyinnsantafe.com. We stayed in national chain hotel not far from the El Rey and the El Rey just looks so charming that we plan to stay there next time we're in Santa Fe.

Thank you - we'll go to Cerrilos. Have heard about El Rey, some mixed reviews, but sounds like it is worth checking out. We don't really intend on making an advance booking anywhere. Could that be a problem weekend of October 21?
