Most OVERRATED things about Las Vegas
My top 2:

Cirque du Soleil "O" show (had to struggle to stay awake. Their show in Orlando is much better.)

Emeril's restaurant in the Venetian. Overpriced, unremarkable food. I was sorely disappointed - and I think he would have been too!
The fact that you had to struggle to stay awake during "O" says more about you than about the show. What is the point of this thread anyhow?
Sorry, Detroit, can't join with you on the "O" review. I loved it. Well, except for the clowns on the floating house bit, when it got a little too, ummm, homoerotic.
Loved the guy who caught on fire and wandered off stage.
Can't comment on Emeril's, but I had the same reaction to Olive's at Bellagio.
I felt I'd been ripped off. I don't mind spending when I receive value, but there was precious little value for what we (2 couples) spent that night.
I've been to Vegas 4 times, and I can't see any reason to go back.
Doubt anyone there will miss me.
Totally disagree with you about "O". I thought it was awesome. We ate at Emeril's Fish House in MGM and were extremely disappointed. I would never try any of his restaurants again after that experience. But to answer your question....I think the most overrated thing about Vegas is buffets. I hate buffets!
We liked Mystere better than O - but it still wouldnt put me to sleep!
Emerils is good sometimes, too busy and noisy others.

I think a lot of these things have to do with expectations, you get so much hype about some things it is impossible to live up to it!

I like Las Vegas.I don't expect to win,but I do have fun there, and we have some restos that we can count on to be good,so we tend to go to those.

Compared to Scarlett, I'd bet all of LV is overrated. I happen to be a real fan though, and probably a bit overly familiar. You wouldn't find me falling asleep from boredome, LOL.
Gerri,
Just what does the fact that I didn't like "O" say about me? I really was looking forward to it, I had seen another Cirque show previously and loved it, I had heard all the rave reviews, and in the end it just didn't live up to my expectations. For the price of the tickets and all of the hype, I expected a lot more. If that makes me sound uncultured to you - so be it. Doesn't bother me.
(Side note: I'm starting to find Cirque fanatics can be as die-hard and defensive as Disney fanatics!)
I agree - O sucks
I agree O was a big disappointment!!!
What's up with those silly dancing water sprinklers? With nice lighting and some Lionel Richie tunes. They decided that paying the pirates every day to jump around in front of Treasure Island was too expensive, so they wanted to come up with something a lot cheaper. Big Deal.
I'll never understand the popularity of this attraction. Beautiful? maybe. Stunning? Now you're pushing it. It is sprinklers on a timer for goodness sake, get a life!
Hector, you're a SAD, SAD person!!
Agree with Emeril's restaurant. Such a bad experience that I no longer even watch him on TV anymore.
I agree with Hector. Looked at those fountains, listened to that music, said, "Ok", nice, but with the music, just a bit on the cheesy side. Very LV.
"x" -- you're a SAD, SAD person, too! Those fountains are beautiful and mesmerizing!!
Who rates Las Vegas high at any level. No desire to ever visit this place in my life time.
Jane, I'd guess you haven't travelled much. There is great beauty all around us, but it is not in water fluctuating to the beat of blared music!
Thank you, xxx., for that extremely helpful posting. There's nobody whose opinion about a place I value more than someone who's never been there.

If you go and think it sucks, that's fine, but don't tell us that it sucks and, therefore, anybody who thinks it doesn't it stupid, when you haven't actually been there and have "no desire to visit" it in your lifetime.
Lol! such strong emotions over fountains!
Every time we go to Vegas, there are hundreds of people waiting to see the fountains ,taking pictures, asking for the cd's that are the music played while the fountains "dance".
Some of you sound like you just want to be cool and NOT like what everyone else likes.
You don't have to like any of it though.
Stay home.
We won't be back, and were actually able to figure that out without any input from you, "Oh". Whadda ya know. My my, such strong emotions from the peanut gallery.
Everything is overated in Vegas but thats the great thing about it. Its way over the top and its suppose to be. I Love VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol,bc,you break my heart! you won't be back???? Waaaaa.what will Las Vegas do without you???????
Oh yes, gourmet dining, luxery hotels, hot night clubs, headline entertainment PLUS everything from horesback riding to skydiving, rollercosters to race car driving Yes how boring!

Vegas is one of a kind and All American!
Note to Spot: I've traveled all over the world, Asia, Europe, Australia, etc., and I still think the fountains are gorgeous, just a small fraction of the "beauty that's all around us," as you so say!
The whole place is an embarrassment to decent people. Most overrated? Well, the trailer-park people who frequent the casinos would be at the top of my list. Pathetic. Or perhaps the geriatrics wasting our tax dollars on slot machines. Vegas is a sad sad place. Pitiful.

I hate gambling, I don't enjoy the "nudie" shows, I'm not a lover of magic, I've never seen a Vegas production that I've truly loved (call me a snob), the disney-esque ships, volcanos, fountains, etc. are yes, "over-the-top", the buffet food gets tiring VERY fast, but I LOVE Vegas. I enjoy the energy, the restaurants and bars, walking the strip, the people-watching---everyone's having a great time, and I love the "never have a chill getting out of the pool" heat of the summer. I love travel, both domestic and foreign, but I also have to get my "Vegas fix" every 4 yrs or so. It's just a weird, fun, different, funky place!
I,too, have travelled extensively. Also, we arrived in L.V.after 2 weeks in Sedona, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce and Zion...speaking of culture shock(lol)!

Our room at the Paris overlooked the Bellagio fountains, and from our room we could hear Andrea Bocelli singing "Time to Say Goodbye"..my favourite song. Need I say more? We videotaped the whole thing from our window.

Once here, I may as well add that we saw 4 shows, the best being "O" and Danny Gans. (See him, if you haven't).
We liked breakfast at the boulangerie in the Paris.
