Mossbrae Falls
 

I'm considering hiking out to Mossbrae Falls in a couple weeks. However, BF has knee issues and I'm not sure if a walk along the railroad tracks would be too tough on his knee. So I'm hoping someone who has hiked this can let me know more about its' difficulty - especially if you have to scramble to avoid a passing train.

We have hiked this many many times. MY DH does it several times each summer. I'll have him post later with in depth descriptions for you. How bad are the knees? Does he do any hiking? I don't remember this hike as strenuous in any way.

He hikes - but is limited to short hikes, about two miles or so, on even surfaces. I think the length of this hike will be ok, especially if he rests at the falls and we're going to want to spend some time there anyway. I'm more concerned about uneven terrain - his knee causes severe pain if he pivots certain ways

The hike to the falls is all flat and is just over a mile. He should have no problems. The only concern on this hike is the train. There are many areas along the tracks to be safe if a train comes a long, and other areas that are not. So be cautious, listen for the whistle and rumble, and be prepared to scramble if need be

It is a super easy walk -- really little kids walk it all the time.

BUT I <i>think</i> the access is now closed to the public. Haven't asked any of my rels in the area about the current situation.

I saw on the Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce website that it was closed, janis - but how can they close it if it's along a train track? I thought it was saying closed for liability purposes until they build a trail to it from Hedge Creek Falls - I can understand why the railroad would be worried about liability and didn't want the local CofC recommending the hike - but how could they physically close it off to hiking while keeping it open for trains?.

I hiked there on Sunday, June the 26th. The parking lot near there is closed. And the people there do not want you to park around there. But the trail is not closed.
