Mosquitos?

Mosquitos love me whenever I visit humid places ... should I be concerned about a lot of them in Maui, Kaui, or the BI in late summer through autumn? Are there a lot or just as much as any other humid location? Should I bring lots of repelant?

Bob, mosquitos love mee too, so I understand yourconcern. When I visited Maui, the only area where I felt the humidity to be high was around Hana, and on the road there. As this area is rain forest, that's understandable. Elsewhere I didn't feel it was very humid (and I have lived in Louisiana, so I know humid!) and I was never bitten by anything. haven't been to the other islands - yet - so I can't address them.

I lived in the South, below the gnat line, where the insects are voracious.
In Hawaii, they are of average voracity.
I do not think they are as bad as the ones in Yellowstone or in Alaska.
The ones in Yellowstone are fierce, particularly around Lewis Lake. We pulled into the campground there once and were surprised to find it half full. We got out of the car to set up camp and soon found out why there was plenty of space. I did not say much one when two of them took my sandwich, but when six of them picked up my son, I figured it was time to leave.
In Alaska, the army troops used 45 caliber pistols, rifel butts, and baseball bats in self defense. Swarms of the critters have touched off radar alarms like they were low flying enemy aircraft.
The ones in Hawaii are not quite that bad. You can hit them with your bare hand and kill them.
