Mortons or Ruth's Chris??
Hubby and I need a nice dinner out tomorrow night.. LOVE Ruth's Chris in downtown Mpls.. have been to MAnny's.. but its a bit noisy. I was able to get a reservatoin at Mortons-- but have never been there. I'd love some opinions!

aimee....IMHO, you cant go wrong at Mortons.I like the atmosphere..very "clubby"...Usually, I end up getting 2 appetizers, one of the "small" steaks, and the must have upside down apple pie.I get the appetizers cause I cant resist..I skip the salad and potato..Of course, for 2 weeks after, I have to live off pbj sandwiches and spaghetti!! :D

Great key lime pie too.

Agree with Beach, can't go wrong at Mortons, IMO MUCH better than Ruth's Chris.
And if we're talking desserts, nothing beats their warm Godiva chocolate cake! |
I would choose MOrton's hands down over ruth chris. I just dont get the thrill of Ruth Chris.
|
To me, Ruth's Chris is more informal, louder, and definitely a cajun inspired dinner.Mortons is a gastronomic event, in my little world.I savor every morsel and moment.
|
Have you tried Murray's? The Grand Dame of Mpls. steakhouses....sometimes an older crowd.
|
In Seattle the best they do is steak and Key Lime Pie. The martinis and wine by the glass list are good, too.
I was disappointed in the bread, the potato, and the salty sauteed spinach. The atmosphere is pleasingly masculine. |
I'm a Ruth's Chris girl. Their au gratin potatoes are to die for and their filet is always fabulous. Good service too. I've only eaten at Morton's once several years ago and was not impressed. My filet was fatty & the service was bad (granted, it was New Year's Eve, but who seats a woman 8 months pregnant next to a table of smokers?).

thanks everyone.. i guess we'll give mortons a try... im nervous!! ha ha!! ill report in on sunday!! how about that beautiful day today in mpls??? nice weather!!!
|
I think you will like Morton's. We have gone there several times and it has always been good. Also have been to Ruth Chris and Manny's and Murray's and have good meals at all but Morton's is great. Have a nice night out!!
|
They are both overpriced and noisy. It is a total irritation to me to have to shout across a table to my companions. The Ruth's Chris we went to had dirty menus and really poor service.

Hi Aimee,
My husband and I just tried Mortons for the first time (we are long time Ruth's Chris fans). I have to say, Mortons was really great. Top notch service AND yummy food. You are definitely going to pay for it, everything is ala carte like at Ruth's Chris, but, in my opinion, it was worth it. More on my Morton's experience: http://www.whatsfunthere.com/2006/10...rt-california/ By the way, try the Lemon Drop Martini! |
All things considered, you might try Sullivans in lieu of either of the others.
|
Just a hunch...I'm guessing aimee has eaten and passed her dinner already since this request was from March.

Oh I see FunTravelGal is just promoting her website...by digging up old posts.

Saps,
Interesting observation. I was wondering why this old post was dug up. The food at both these restaurants is way too rich for me. The last time I ate at Morton's, I had an attack of acid reflux that almost strangled me. HTTY |
Couldn't handle the heart attack on a plate ?? LOL
