Morrow Bay Anyone?
We have the opportunity to rent a lovely vacation home for a week this summer in Morro Bay. The owners are being very generous and we would love to go however, we aren't sure what to do once we arrive. Please help! We know of Hearst Castle but what is actually in the town of Morro Bay and the surrounding area? Thanks so much!

MB is a great base for side trips all over the central coast, from Santa Barbara to Monterey. You can visit Cambria, all the wineries in Paso Robles, Templeton and San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Carmel, Pismo Beach, etc etc etc.

The area around Morro Bay is great for lazing around or hiking, You can sea kayak in the back bay, check out tidepools at Hazard Canyon and Montana de Oro, body surf at Cayucos. Lots of restaurants in MB and San Luis. Also a performing arts center in SLO, lots of retail downtown along the creek.

IMHO it is a week you would enjoy immensely, find relaxing and regret if you didn't do it and knew what you were missing! If anything you will wish that it were two weeks instead of one...

psl

On Thursday night, drive over to San Luis Obispo (residents called it SLO) where they have a "street fair." People selling food (to eat on the spot and for home), arts & crafts, musicians, etc.

Judy,
My family traveled up the coast last year and Morro Bay was on our list of places to see. While the "rock" is interesting, it was shrouded in fog and so we didn't get the full view. My kids had some fun with a brown squirrel near the rock, and picked up pebbles on the beach. But they were bored. Not much else for them to do.
What they DON'T show in the pictures, however, is that Morro Rock is directly opposite a huge UGLY power plant that is right on the water.

Morro Bay is a wonderful town to vacation in. Great home base for a week of exploring the Central Coast. There's a movie theater in town, as well as a number of restaurants. The Pizza Port serves up some good pizza and beer. As a previous poster mentioned, Market Night in SLO is a popular weekly event. There are so many great places to hike in the area and the local wineries can't be beat.

I'd highly recommend renting the house and planning on one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations that you could dream up.
