Moroccan restaurant in NY??

I am looking for an authentic resturant in NY. We want to experience sitting on pillows on the floor. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

The only one I know is Darna - Columbus in the high 80's. It's Moroccan Kosher - but distincly is not of the floor sitting variety.

If you go to menupages.com you can search restaurants by cuisine though - there were 6/7 others - but I'm not personally familiar.

As far as I know, none of NYC's Moroccan restaurants offer "on the floor" seating. It's not particularly comfortable, and it makes serving very difficult.

That being said, Mogador on St. Mark's Place is my favorite Moroccan restaurant. You'll find it between First Ave and Avenue A.

Here's a vote for Pasha, on the upper west side (70 W. 71st St.) - as with the others, no pillows on the floor, but excellent food with congenial service.

From what I recall, Pasha is a Turkish restaurant, not Moroccan.

Mamlouk is not Moroccan (middle eastern) but has "tables so low that to dine at them requires an advanced knowledge of Pilates" according to NY Magazine. Sounds uncomfortable enough to qualify. Pamir has the look if not the feel.

oops - gekko, you're absolutely right! I stand (actually...sit!) corrected!

Another is Country Cafe on THompson St in Soho, also no floor seating. This is a bit more upscale than Mogador (which is very casual), but still lowkey. Mogador is nothing fancy but the food is good and very reasonable. Country Cafe, has a more creative menu and is pricer, but still good value and large portions. I haven't eaten in any others.

Definitely check out menupages.com (you can view menus and people leave comments), and also the chowhound.com board.

Probably too late with this info for August's honeymooner. But incase anyone else wanted to know, you can sit on the floor in a tent like thing if you order from the Prix Fixe Menu:

Casa La Femme North
1076 First Ave. (Upper East Side)
between 58th and 59th Sts.
