Morning in miami

Dw, ds2 and I are in miami. We have a nice little guest house. I'll post the airbnb link. It's just off the Venitian Causeway. I'm sitting on the deck eating an apple and looking at the water. It's very pretty. Later we hope to take bikes to the beach. Look at the Delano. Go to that Cuban restaurant on 5th (?). Tomorrow we go to a baseball game in Viera. Lots of bikers on the causeway. I'm going to see how hard it is to bike to the beach. We welcome any suggestions you Florida experts might have.

That looks like a nice air bnb. Soak up the sun!

santamonica Mar 22nd, 2015 05:33 AM

Go swimming in the ocean!

Thanks for all your suggestions! Jubi, I'm worried that flat bread may not be as exciting as puff pastry.

Goodness, not much interest in miami mornings. I've got to make this more interesting. Topless women on the beach! It might have been the same woman. You can't appear too interested. Anyway, I got up, got out of bed, ran a comb (actually I don't have a comb), jumped in the pool, rode bike to Delano, took pictures, rode back to house, convinced dw to get up, went kayaking, convinced ds to get up, rode bikes to beach (2 at house, 1 at citibikes bikestand), rode bikes to Puerto Sagua for big lunch, rode bikes home, pool, nap. Now gotta pick up dw, who wanted more beach time. Lots of bodies in miami. Tats. Harleys. Push up bras. Loud music. Pretty interesting, huh? Did I mention the toplessness on the beach?

Take the Art Deco Walking Tour, wonderful.

santamonica Mar 22nd, 2015 12:34 PM

HT, tomorrow we go up to Viera for a baseball game. Tonight maybe Calle Ocho for dinner. I'm gonna take another nap. I may be able to walk again on wednesday.

Does anybody know a nice nature park beach on the way to viera?

santamonica Mar 22nd, 2015 12:39 PM

how about a nice inexpensive Calle Ocho restaurant? I'll google too. I'm not lazy.

John d MacArthur state park. That's where I want to go. We went there about 10 years ago on the way to viera. Very pretty.

For future travelers to miami, here's a list of top 10 cuban restaurants. we went to islas Canarias. Very good, although hidden away in a shopping center rather than in the heart of calle ocho.

7-6. Nationals beat the Yankees. Doug Fister didn't pitch that well but he hit in a couple runs. I don't know how many pitches he threw. Pitch count is important.

We stopped on the way to Space Coast Stadium in Viera to go swimming at John d MacArthur state park, a very pretty nature park and beach just north of West palm beach. Then we drove through a drivING rainstorm. But the game Was still on. I feared we had made a really dumb mistake driving almost 7 hours round trip to a rained out game. Miracle. Only a little drizzle.

In the 9th inning we moved right behind the plate. The ball comes in very quickly. And the batters swing the bat very quickly. And the ball makes a loud crack when it's hit. And the batter runs fast to first. Sitting there, you're really aware of how sharp and physical baseball is. It's different From the game I watch from my $5 GameDay seats in section 402.

DW got autographs from some minorleaguers. #17 Drew Ward. His whole family was there. They were very proud. Then we drove home. Sat out on the deck by the water and had some cheese and crackers and beer.

We're having a good time.

You should be a baseball reporter for a major newspaper. You brought the game to life.

Santamonica - have a great time! How are the dogs?? I am not sure I would want to stay in a house with someone else dogs....

You could visit Vizcaya. I second doing the Art Deco Walking Tour. It has been years since I've done it and I would like to do it again!

santamonica Mar 24th, 2015 06:05 AM

Thanks cold. I'm working on some other words for 'quickly.' Synonyms. Florida, we've been to vizcaya and liked it a lot. Like the ringling mansion in Sarasota. I think dw's dogs (feet) aren't up to a walking tour, so likely we'll just go to the beach and look blasé about Miami swimwear. The dogs here don't bite. Yet.

Well, here we are key biscayne. Crandon state park. DW asks if anyone has ever been hurt by a falling coconut. You can see them up there, just waiting for a careless tourist to put down his beach blanket in the death zone. Then the tree drops the coconuts and the tree roots eat up the body. I bet it happens lots of times but people get careless, looking at the ocean or whatnot and then, bam! One less tourist. No wonder the beach isn't crowded.

An astute question from DW. How is her foot doing?

Thanks for the house link. A gorgeous view.

It sounds like you are having a great time! Have you been able to use the SUPs?

It's 70 here so those cherry blossoms should be popping soon.

We loved this place especially for breakfast:
