Morgan Hill, CA - restaurants
 

Looking for a few good moderately priced and cheap restaurant suggestions in the Morgan Hill area, breakfast, lunch and dinner. My husband will be traveling alone for an extended golf weekend; he?ll be staying at the Residence Inn near Coyote Creek Golf Course. He likes just about any cuisine and prefers to stay away from chain restaurants if possible.

I don't have any recommendations since I don't eat in Morgan Hill very often, but his best bet for non-chain restaurants will be downtown. There is a small downtown area, a few blocks long right on Monterey Hwy between Cochrane and East Dunne freeway exits.

Morgan Hill was a pretty small agricultural town up until a few years ago when people from SJ started moving to south county in droves. A lot of housing and commercial developments have sprung up, bringing a lot of chain restaurants.

Alicia: Here are a couple of links to restaurants in Morgan Hill. If you don't mind the short drive, I agree with the previous poster than San Jose will offer plenty of choices of great restaurants.

I agree with the previous replies. There isn't much in Morgan Hill except what has popped up by Highway 101 in the past 3 years and they are all chains. Downtown has a few Mexican restaurants but I've never tried one.

My advice, head north to San Jose!!

Is "The Flying Lady" restaurant still there?

Giancarlo?s, Mezza Luna and Rosy?s at the Beach are all on Monterey Rd, and Boxseat Sports Bar and Grill is nearby on Vineyard Blvd. Also, there's a good breakfast place near Boxseat and the old bowling alley (whose name escapes me).
As far as eating in San Jose, it's not worth the trouble unless they've finally finished working on the freeway between SJ and MH. The traffic is often ridiculous and doesn't follow any set pattern. You're better off staying down south.

They recently opened new lanes on 101 from Morgan Hill to San Jose. Makes driving into the city much easier by eliminationg the bottleneck. I concur with the others that heading into San Jose makes the most sense for an extensive selection of great restaurants. Unfortunately there are few if any worthwhile non-chain restaurants in Morgan Hill.
