more questions on Cape Cod
Hi Fodorites.
I want to stay 4 nights on Cape Cod in two very different locations (I like to hotel hop). The first should be great for Nature walks and bird watching and the second should be great for quaint shopping and eating lobster. Preferably both should be close to or on the beach though in different parts of the Cape from eachother. I also request eccentric but luxurious lodgings for both. Can you tell me which two places I should stay? Thank-you so much for your help. |
Sandwich and Wellfleet. You say you like to "hotel hop", but I would stay all 4 in Wellfleet area (Truro, Eastham, are also possibilities)

When are you going?...not during July and August I hope. We used to rent a cottage near Wellfleet, and based on your interests, heartily agree with Gail..

You should include Provincetown...it is crazy, quirky, very tourtisty and lots of fun.

Let us know when you are coming- it will make a big difference!
One can drive from Provincetown, at the far end of the Cape, to Sandwich, nearest the bridge in just under an hour, with lots of fun places to see and things to do in-between- but it will depend upon what time of the year you are coming. Once I know that, will give you some options(though I heartily agree with Gail). |
Eccentric & luxurious will be a hard accommodation to find on our Cape Cod. I can't think of anything that will qualify. Luxurious - Wequasset Inn, Chatham Bars Inn are 2 in the 2nd part of the category. Sandwich/Falmouth would be one area to stay (upper Cape) and anywhere from Chatham to Provincetown the other (outer Cape). The National Seashore is certainly a great place for birding and nature walks. Quaint shopping and eating lobster are avaiable everywhere and you are never too far from the beach since it is 17 miles at its widest. Good luck.

I stayed at the Brass Key in Provincetown and it was fairly luxurious and in a great location.

In Falmouth there is a fantastic B&B- The Inn on the Sound- it is beautiful and perfect. Might not be open in the winter, though
