Moraine campground and weather questions in Rocky Mountain NP
What can I expect the weather to be like (average conditions anyway) for 1st week in August. NPS site suggest high 70's and mid 40's at night. Is that about right? Of course, I know that weather can be unpredictible anywhere anytime. I think the specific area that I was looking at was Estes Park, just wasn't sure how off that would be for Moraine campground based on elevation etc. We are tent camping. I have been to 29 National Parks and this will be my first time camping in one. Maybe backpacking sometime. I normally go with my daughter and wife, but this is with a couple of college guys that work for me.

Moraine Park may be a little higher elevation than in town, but it wouldn't make that much difference in the weather conditions. Those temps sound about right. Hopefully, all the rain we've been getting the last couple of weeks will be gone and you'll have drier conditions. Do not hesitate to bring winter clothing (parkas, hats, gloves) because it will feel very cold after dark! But you couldn't ask for a more scenic area in which to camp, well worth the effort. If it gets unbearable, though, you're relatively close to civilization, just a short drive away! Have a great time!

We spent a night tent camping at Moraine last weekend. There was a chalkboard as we entered the campground with predicted temps: mid-70s day/mid-50s at night. I would expect the temps in early August to be similar. It was actually warmer when we camped at Moraine in early August several years ago than on this trip.
It rained off and on during the two days we were there. Fortunately, it held off while we set up camp and during our hike, but it did rain most of the night.

We've camped there several times and I thought you might like a little info about showers.
The park does not have showers but you can take showers at Dad's Laundry in a strip mall in Estes Park. The address is 457 East Wonderview Avenue.
