Moose's, Rose Pistola or Washington Square Bar & Grill for a small function?
We are hosting a party for about 20 people in early December. We will have drinks first at an apartment on Telegraph Hill, then where for dinner afterwards? The three places mentioned are all within walking distance. We would prefer a private or semi-private space.
Both Moose's & Rose Pistola have responded to our request; we haven't heard back from Washingston Square Bar & Grill. Would love to hear about anyone's recent experiences with any of these three places, or others nearby. |
"or others nearby."
My husband had a terrible time locating a restaurant that could accommodate 15 to 20 business associates last spring in S.F. We love North Beach Restaurant and another Fodorite, Stu, had mentioned the Prosciutto Room. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, but we had a great time and we really gave the people who were from out-of-town something to write home about - a affair to remember, if you will. The staff treated us royally, the food was plentiful and delicious and very well prepared (several appetizers, salad, pasta, main course, desert). Take a look at the pictures on the website if you check into it. www.northbeachrestaurant.com It is in the "basement", it is a meat drying room and there are Prosciutto hanging overhead , there are stainless steel sinks (all clean of course) on one wall but it really had atmosphere. The wine tab was a little on the high side because my husband did not limit the number of bottles of wine they were bringing out and they did keep them coming. |
I had brunch at the WasshBAG a few months ago and really wasn't impressed. It was pretty vacant and the food was okay. It is nice that it's right across from the park.
Maybe things are more swinging at lunch or dinner? |
Thanks, Ronda, for the North Beach Restaurant suggestion - I had looked at that but thought (and still probably do) that the hams hanging overhead might put people off. It is probably brilliant, but we need to err on the conservative side I think.
Bill, I have had similar fears about the WashBag - haven't read anything good about it in a long time. It used to be the place to be, but that is quite a long time ago. Any other ideas or comments from any one? |
Does it have to be walking distance? Perbacco on California Street in the financial district has very good food and a couple of upstairs rooms that could probably accommodate your group (although it's starting to get late for booking early
