Monument Park New York Yankees

We have tickets to a game in August on a Saturday afternoon. (1 p.m.)

If we plan to visit Monument Park, what do we need to know? Never been to NYC so just needing some details. Also, is the Bronx Botanical Gardens and Wave Hill nearby that we could visit either before or after the game? and how would we get there from Rockefeller Center where we are staying.

By car or public transit??

Walk to Lexington Ave and 51st street subway station from Rock Center (5th Ave and 49th street). Take the 4 train to Yankee Stadium Stop (161st street). The 4 is the best train to the Stadium.

Driving and Parking are never fun to the stadium. Getting anywhere (pretty much) except back on the train after a game is not easy. Go Yanks.

one more thing... if the 4 train is running express (not stopping at 51st station), either get it at Grand Central Station (42nd street & Lex) or 59th station (59th & lex).

You can walk to these as well, or take the train that stops at the 51st street station one stop to 59th and change to the 4.

The #4 train is an express and doesn't stop at 51st Street.

Check out the Yankee web site for Monument Park hours. It is well worth it. If you plan on visiting Monument Park, you will need to get there probably at least 1 1/2 hours before game time because of the lines, etc. (There is no charge to enter.)

It is not possible to visit the Botanical Gardens if you also visit Monument Park because of time constraints and the hours of operation of the Gardens. If you skip Monument Park and arrived when the Gardens opened at 10 a.m. it is possible to spend a couple of hours there since it is fairly close to the Stadium. (Wave Hill is not near the Stadium.) To get to the Gardens, take the 4 train to Bedford Park Blvd (which is past the Stadium stop). Walk for about 20 minutes southeast on Bedford Park Blvd to the Gardens or use a free transfer for the Bx-26 bus to the Gardens.

Enjoy !!

There is an easier way to get to the Stadium from where you are staying, take the D train uptown right on 6th and 51st and take it to Yankee Stadium which is 161st ST in the Bronx. The last top on the D in Manhattan is 145th ST, so it's only 1 more stop from there. The return is just as easy and the D train is usually not as crowded. We live right off the subway line within walking distance to the Stadium and the D line is what we use all the time to get downtown.

Have a great time and root for the Yankees, they sure need it this year.

Too much to do in one day! Now if the Yankee game was at night I say spend the day touring the Bronx. Next trip you can combine the Zoo with the Botanical Gardens and then have dinner on Arthur Avenue. For getting to the stadium, the train is the way to go! You can also pick up the D-Train at 53rd and 6th avenue! Yankee Stadium is located at 161st Street. Check the subway maps 'online' and get familiar with the area/trains!
Have a great day. If you are truely adventuress get tix for the bleacher area and REALLY feel a part of the Yankee Fever !!

Get there when the gates open (1.5-2 hrs before gametime) because monument park closes about 1/2 hr before game time and there is always a line.

Sorry I made a slight mistake. The D-Train is on 53rd and 7th avenue!
