Montreal to Quebec City

We are going to Montreal in July and I was wondering
if anyone could tell me what is the best way to get
from Montreal to Quebec City - moneywise and time-
wise. Will probably want to travel on the weekend
if this makes any difference in available options.

While in Montreal last year, we took a one-day bus tour to Quebec. You can arrange this with the concierge at your hotel. The bus will pick you up right at the hotel. The commentary on the bus is very informative and quite amusing. They take you past the major sights and you have several hours to spend exploring the Upper town and the Lower town before heading back to Montreal. Plenty of time to have lunch, shop and wander all over.

Donna, Thanks for your reply - we have taken the bus tour before and enjoyed it, but we wanted to spend one night in Quebec City and I didn't know if we would be able to do the bus tour since we would not be leaving the same day. I wondered if there were other ways of going other than renting a car. Does anyone know?

There is a train going to Quebec City every morning from Montreal. You can return around 5:00pm any day.
The train station in Montreal is located just under the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. VIA RAIL may even offer packages for overnight stays. I highly recommend that you spend at least one night in Quebec. There is much to see and July is perfect. You can also take the bus (Equivalent to Greyhound) leaving every
hour on the hour from the Voyageur Bus Terminal. You
return whenever you want, no reservation necessary.
The bus leaves Quebec every hour of the day. Very
convenient and cheaper than a tour bus. Renting a
car is not necessary; the highway from Montreal to
Quebec is not very scenic and parking is not easy in
the old town. Don't forget to have a meal or at least a drink on Grande Allée. Bon voyage !

Nicole, Perfect! This was just the information I needed!! Thanks so much. You're right - you can't see all of Quebec City in one day. When I was there before, it seemed I had just gotten started when it was time to leave. I'll remember the advice regarding Grand Allee. Is this in Old Town? I had some fantastic French Onion soup at a little restaurant there last time. Thanks again.
