Monthly Car Rental
We are looking into renting a mid-size or compact car for 6 to 8 weeks starting in Feb.1,08.
Riverside, Ca. area. Most car rental company rents by the week, for $150.00 or more. Appreciate any info of cheaper rate/monthly rate! Thankyou very much. |
$600 for a month rental would be a great price. Be sure you investigate insurance options, as credit cards may not cover rentals that long.

I flew into LAX for Thanksgiving and the AVIS shuttle had an ad displayed for long term rentals-over thirty days.
Let me know what you find out. I may need a six to eight week rental this summer. |
I was bringing up a fantastic weekly rate from LAX with Dollar -- something like $95 a week TOTAL, but I needed the car for 34 days and they limit you to 30. I found a few prices with monthly rates, but they were actually higher. I ended up doing two rentals from Dollar -- one for 14 days and one for 20 days (2 weeks and 3 weeks). It meant I had to drive to their office at LAX to "exchange" rentals, but they just let me keep the one I had. I figured it was still worth the effort as we saved well over $150 doing it that way.

The problem w/ long term rentals are that neither your credit card nor own car insurance will cover you. So even IF you can find a rental for 8 weeks - you'd have to buy the agencies daily insurance which would cost a fortune.
What is your itinerary - or are you spending the entire time in Riverside? You will likely have an easier time if you rent more than one car for shorter periods. Like three 2.5 week rentals, or two 30-day-ers |
janis, thanks for the explanation. I actually couldn't remember the reasoning behind not being able to find a longer rental without it costing a fortune. That insurance deal is the reason Dollar suggested I do the two separate rentals, and probably why it was cheaper than any of the longer term ones.
