Monterey restaurants: Are Fishwife and (in Carmel) Antoin and Michelle still good?

It's been a few years since I have been to either. Are they still good? Any other Monterey restaurant suggestions? Thanks.

Any other Monterey suggestions for casual, but good food restaurants (I know Antoin & Michelle is not casual). Thanks.

It's Anton & Michael just for clarification. We had a wonderful lunch there not too long ago, out by the fountain. Yes, it was very nice and doesn't receive enough recogniton, IMO.

For casual and excellent food in Monterey, try Schooners Bistro at the Plaza. And in Carmel, check out the California Market located at the Highland's Inn. ***kim***

I have always preferred Monterey's Fish House to the Fishwife. IMO, Fishwife too often smothers mediocre fish with equally mediocre sauces, and the side dishes are just sad. So--try Monterey's Fish House this time, it's casual; try Sea Harvest for very casual atmosphere, and impeccably fresh fish prepared very simply. I also like Rio Grill in Carmel Highlands and Montrio in downtown Monterey, and Gianni's Pizza in New Monterey for a really garlicky pie! Enjoy!

Can't vouch for Anton and Michel. But Fishwife is WONDERFUL. Especially the daily specials.

Other great places to go include Fandango for Mediterranean food.

And Peppers is an all time favorite for mexican food. Their fish tacos are awesome. It's very casual and usually filled with locals.

Both of these are in Pacific Grove.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try Monterey Fish House and certainly consider the others. Thanks again.

Noooo, it's Anton & Michel. Nice try.

Fishwife is extremely ordinary. There are plenty of fabulous restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula. Which cuisine do you prefer?
