Monterey hotels, Lighthouse

Hi travellers,
We're visiting Monterey, CA, mid June.
Has anyone stayed at the Lighthouse Lodge and Suites. We're booked into a junior suite (got a good deal), one night and wonder if we should get a second night, or go somewhere else.
Any suggestions? For 3 people, not too pricey, but nice.
How is the Victorian Inn?
Parking seems to be a problem for Monterey hotels, some charge extra, and some don't have parking at all.

although it has been a few years, I have stayed at the Victorian Inn alone with my husband and with our children. It was perfectly fine. You can walk to the aquarium from there and they serve continental breakfast/afternoon wine& cheese.

Thanks Laurenzo,
My son likes the look of the place.
My husband is concerned that the Victorian Inn doesn't have air conditioning, and parking is difficult.

In June, it's pretty unlikely you will need AC in Monterey.

Trippinkpj, so it's mild in June? That's good news. Is it warm enought to swim in the ocean? We are coming from overseas.
So the Victorian Inn could be OK, if parking can be found.
Any other hotel ideas?

I have friends in Pacific Grove so I typically don't stay in hotels/ inns much there anymore. The Pacific Ocean is pretty cold in Northern and Central Coast, CA all year round. I really like Pacific Grove, I might go with the Lighthouse Inn and Suites.

It is never warm enough to swim in the Pacific Ocean in Northern California, unless you are wearing a wet suit. Although kids and teenagers do venture in especially on the beaches in Santa Cruz.

OK, Trippinkpj, thanks for the advice, I'll go with the Lighthouse Suite in Pacific Grove, everyone seems to like that town and beach.
SAB, guess I'll have to dig out my old wet suit and see how tight it is, LOL! From the photos I've seen online the beaches around Monterey are very pretty. We might be the only people in the water!
I'm going to book another 2 nights in Pacific Grove, in an Inn or bed and breakfast. Problem is, we are 3 people (big son and us), and the cute B and Bs on line seem to be just for couples. Anyone know a nice, good value Bed and Breakfast in the area?

I personally don't, but here's a good PG lodging website:

Here's the B&Bs: http://www.pacificgrove.org/dirpages/bedbreakfast.htm

I don't know about the room size or affordable. Here's one in Carmel we stayed at & liked:

I've seen this place. It's a basic motel, but right across the street from the Ocean at lovers point. By the looks of the rooms on the website, they have all different room sizes and bed configurations. And looks more budget friendly than the other inns/ b&bs in the area:

Consider Asilomar Conference Grounds in PG (www.visitasilomar.com) It's old and rustic, but most rooms have fireplaces, and many rooms are for triples or quads and have separate areas for the toilet, bath, and sink/dressing which makes it handy for more than 2 people. It's also right on the beach, with many rooms having either a woodsy or ocean view (or both).

They have a main dining room where you can get a big breakfast with lots of choices. There are other restaurants nearby also.

I really like it there; the rooms don't have phones or TVs. It's more of a retreat setting. Prices aren't bad either.

In Monterey we really liked the very nice Holiday Inn Express on Wave Street. Definitely a cut above most expresses (which are usually nice anyway), one block from the ocean and Cannery Row and view from room (3rd floor). Our room was a mini suite with two queens and a sofa bed, perfect for 'big' kids While we got our nights free (Priority Club points) as i recall the rates were competitive. Also included wine and cheese receptions each night and continental breakfast.

We also stayed at Asilomar Conference Center for one night as it was a 3.5 week road trip and the price was right! The location, view from room and breakfast were all excellent, but i don't think i'd stay there again.

Ugh I hated the Lighthouse Lodge. Hated it sooo much we cancelled all the remaining nights and went home after 1 night. This was the motor lodge section so I'm hoping you have the much nicer suite area that is down the street. I've made it my mission to warn people about this place because they made it seem nice on the website and it really is not.
