Monterey/Carmel in 2 days - must do's?
 

We'll be visiting Monterey/Carmel at the end of August for 2 nights. One full day and two partial days.

Aside from the aquarium (not really our thing), what do you think are must see/do in the area?

None of us have visted the area before. (4 adults in 30's and an 11 month old)

The coastline in that area is spectacular. Try the 17 mile drive, (between Carmel and Monterey) and the wildlife/nature preserve at Point Lobos (just south of Carmel).
If you stay in the heart of Carmel, you can walk to an array of restaurants, shops, galleries, town beach in what is one of the most charming villages in America. No high rises, neon, not even a McDonald's.

They passed a law many years ago that banned most chain stores.

Second on Pt Lobos. Pacific Grove shore, Spanish Bay, NOT Cannery Row (tacky, IMO), Carmel Beach, walkway east along Carmal Beach as far as you casn walk, Hansel & Gretel cottages (http://www.cottageliving.com/cottage...688075,00.html),

We are staying in Monterey by Cannery Row. We know it is going to be a bit cheesy, but were working with some price constraints. Would have preferred Carmel, but it didn't work out.

If you are going as far as Carmel, you MUST drive on down to Big Sur. The views are spectacular. I enjoyed the 17 Mile Drive also.

Don't miss Pt. Lobos State Reserve in the Carmel Highland's area. Have a meal at the California Market at the Highland's Inn, great food and stunning views from the outdoor patio area here! ***kim*** ((#))
