Monterey / Carmel -Recommend good dining with a view (water etc.)?

Hi there,
I will be in the Monterey/Carmel area for 1 full day next weekend.

I am staying in California for business then hopefully some enjoyment on the weekend when I visit the Monterey area.

Can you please recommend a restaurant with a nice view/attractive surrounding? Are there some restaurants by the water you can recommend?

I'm thinking that Monterey would be known for their seafood, so I'm hoping there's a great dining establishment you can share your insight on.

Would appreciate your expert advice on this. Thanks for taking the time to share.

I recently had a delicious seafood meal in the restaurant inside The Clement Intercontinental Hotel. (Sorry, I can't remember the restaurant's name). It is located on Cannery Row on the water. However, if you dine in the evening, it will be dark and there won't be much value to the water view.

Head to The Inn at Spanish Bay and dine at Roy's. The seafood is amazing! The views are spectacular. If you're there sixish you can spy the famous bagpiper serenading the guests on the grounds.

SPANISH BAY is the place to go.

Enjoy the fire pits on the patio overlooking the Pacific while the bagpiper plays at sundown. The front desk will give you times.

Either ROY'S or PEPPONI's is good place to eat...both on property.

This is a favorite spot for us and we live in Pacific Grove.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. Can you please tell me what the price ranges are for these restaurants? (Moderate, very expensive, etc.)

The restaurant there is called "The C." LOTRHP, the Duck Club at the Monterey Plaza is a very nice restaurant with beautiful water views. We also like the Sardine Factory, the Conservatory Room and the Captain's Room both have very nice ambiance but no water views.

We recently dined at Citronelle at Carmel Valley Ranch, the food here is excellent and the ambiance very nice. In the Carmel Highland's area, Pacific's Edge has beautiful views and gourmet food, it is pricey, tho. Have fun! ***kim***

Passionfish in Pacific Grove..not an ocean view but excellent food and super reasonable.
gets lots of awards and their half bottle wine list has very little mark up.

The views of the Shell Gas Station are particularly lovely from The Passionfish. Sorry, couldn't help myself. >

Roy's & Peppoli are expensive but worth it.

lol..good one TTess!
Food is really good at passionfish but I think Roy's would be perfect too..bagpipes are priceless.
You're the local and you have exquisite taste.
Had dinner at Pacific Edge a couple of months ago which was good but after the sun has set, you can't see a damn thing.
I'm a Post Ranch Inn kind of guy and would suggest sierra mar for lunch or dinner in Big Sur..

Aww...thanks Ksucat! quot;>

I agree with you about Pacific's Edge too. Can you say OVERRATED? Same old song is constantly sung with passe' recommendations...yawn. Rumor has it that the Sardine Factory (also overrated) is going to sell out to a major steak house.

Lothrhp - make sure you put Christopher's, in Carmel, on your list. We're having dinner there this week - fabulous!

Fresh Cream? Same old staid menu and they're closing soon. Better find a new one.

Are you guys mentioning the stale-menued restaurants just to make me pull out my hair?

Just had dinner at Christopher's in Carmel last weekend and it was great. Excellent service, great food, good wine list. No view, but can sure do a lot of window shopping in Carmel.
We were impressed that the owner gave us each a free glass of wine becasue our table wasn't ready at the reservation time, sure made the 10-minute wait pass quickly.

We dined at Christopher's this week and it was amazing! Not only is the food delicious, the service was excellent as was the atmosphere. So glad you enjoyed it, too.

Tess, it's not easy finding good food/view all in one breath, but we're trying, we're trying!

Hoping this won't make you completely bald (unless you have a well shaped head!), if it weren't for the view part, I would have recommended Fifi's. It has "attractive suroundings" on the inside only.

Not that hard, not that hard when you know the area and the restaurants. Of course, it helps to live here. Heh...lucky me, it was 75 degrees today!
