Monterey Bay Inn

Has anyone stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn? If so, what are your comments on it? What about Spindrift?? Also, would you recommend staying in Carmel or Monterey?? Thanks!

Cheryl, Sorry, I don't know about either one. Spindrift I've heard about and their reputation is good.

As far as location, however, since you mention both Carmel and Montery, I would suggest staying in Pacific Grove. It's convenient to both and I would say a little less hectic. Do a Google.com search for Pacific Grove, there's a lot of info. We usually stay in PG when we're out there and love it. If you're so inclined you could walk the ocean trails from Monterey to Carmel, but it would be quite a walk. We've done it . . . once (;-).

In PG you're close to the Aquarium, breakfast or brunch at First Awakenings or Toasties or any number of nice quiet restaurants or you can hit Cannery Row for Bubba Gumps or any number of places.

Ron

I've stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn. It's very nice, great location, very expensive. Much nicer than the Spindrift, which is older. If you have an ocean view room you're in heavan. As far as Carmel vs Monterey - Carmel is way cute, Monterey less so, but it has the Aquarium.

San Jose anyone? Hello? I'd recommend (like I always do) flying into SJ international airport, staying the evening in one of our many cookie cutter hotels, renting a car the next morning and driving down Monterey. That way you'll fill our coffers, pad my statistics for visitors, and generally make me look good. I have no idea about your questions regarding Carmel or Monterey, by the way. But who cares.. I'm all about San Jose!

Stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn last Sept. I think its too pricey and the rooms are in need of some serious updating. I believe they are in the middle of a renovation, but did not see any evidence of it. Not sure if you are looking for ocean view or not; I agree w/ staying in Pacific Grove if you are looking for that. I've never stayed at the Spindrift; I thought the rooms were better (from website/photos) than Monterey Bay Inn though. Carmel is nice, but I think Carmel Valley is nicer. Bernardus, Carmel Valley Lodge or Quail Lodge are all nice; I've stayed at them all. If you like peace, quiet, relaxation, spa, golf, try Carmel Valley. Have fun!!

Thanks JP. We are looking for something right on the ocean and we were told that Monterey Bay Inn was right on the ocean and we do have a coastline view room. Meaning we can see half ocean/half coastline. I'm intrigued since someone else said the hotel was nice....you never know though I guess until you go. Thanks for the comments. We will check out Carmel Valley :)
