Hi easytraveler!
To answer your question, lunch IS available at Sierra Mar at Post Ranch Inn--every day, I believe. What a fantastic ocean view you have there and the food's not too shabby, either! You probably won't need reservations for lunch, unless you're a group, but I would call in advance, just to be sure. Enjoy! postranchinn.com

RebeccaNJ, you can find Easytraveler's Big Sur hiking trip report by clicking on my screen name above this message. The threads I've contributed to will show up to the left, most recently posted to first, and Easytraveler's report is currently #33 on it (although it might be lower by the time you get to it.) Click on it and enjoy; she writes very well. It's on my list because I posted to it to bring it to the top for CarolM.

You'll find a number of other Big Sur threads on my list. Note that you can click at the bottom to see the next 50 older threads. If you click on Easytraveler's name above her post in this thread you'll find more Big Sur threads (as well as some of the same ones), especially if you go on to the older pages since she's just been to Asia and has been posting a lot about there recently. You'll find still more if you enter Big Sur in the search box and click on Find.

Hi, winerycat! (Love that name!!!) Thanks for the info on Post Ranch Inn! Now we've got two great places to choose from! ><

Are you into wines? Because if you are, you might be interested in the barrel winetasting event that the "Inland Empire" has every February. Just found out about it this trip! It's going to be their 16th year next year!

johncharles: will you be my publicity agent?

Seriously, hope you haven't been reading my China posts. Sometimes, it's more like a dog-fight over there; hard to keep a civil tone what with some of the provocative things that are said. None of the good humor and comaraderie as here on the US board!

It's another beautiful day in northern California today! In the low 80's and very very clear! Have a great day, everyone!

Do any of you have packing advice for trip down coast this weekend? San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Simeon? I see 80s inland but 60s on coast. I think we're on the coast the entire time. Do we bring more pants or shorts, sweatshirts and jackets, can we use bathing suits or is it really cold everywhere we're going? THANKS! GOT TO GO PACK!

Bring shorts and long pants, sweatshirt and light jacket-- all we Northern Californians can give you is the perenial advice to dress in layers. The further south you go the more likely you will feel the need for shorts. This past Sunday on the coast is was shorts and tank tops during the day and long pants and sweatshirts at night.

Easytraveler, thanks for the info--I do appreciate good wine, just can't get into the Temecula area wines too much. It's cool on the coast in Laguna, where I'm located now, until I finish my "project", and the Inland Empire, as you say, is just too much heat & concrete to interest me. But I love the Santa Barbara wine country!! Have you been down to the Los Olivos area? The place to be, if you love the great new Rhone-style wines. The area's exploding with excellent new producers and it's scenic as all get out! You might want to check it out on one of your trips south. ;-)

I've seen some comments in this thread about Pt Lobos being kid-friendly - are any of the trails stroller friendly?

What a great trip report... planning a 2-family trip to PG/Monterey in April, so this will be useful.
