Monte Carlo vs. Flamingo?
We've got 2 night in Vegas in July as part of a larger trip. We'll have our 2 sons, ages 13 and 11 with us. I've narrowed down our choices to the Flamingo and the Monte Carlo based on rates and our need for a great pool. The casino is not important to us at all.
The rates and packages being offered are about equivalent, so which would you choose? Is one better run than the other (helpful staff, clean and problem free rooms, room preferences honored, relatively painless check-in/out -- that kind of thing)? |
Based on what you listed, I'd say it's a toss up. However, since gambling is not a big deal, I'd probably give the nod to Monte Carlo. A few more things to do for kids at that end of the strip (all walking distance).

Well we are big fans of the Flamingo and although I am not going to push for hotel or the other here is some additional info that may help you decide:
Monte Carlo 1. Right across the street in Gameworks 2. Excaliber, NYNY roller coaster and arcade area just next door 3. Lion exhibit across the street at MGM 4. Mandalay shark reef exhibit at that end of the strip Flamingo 1. Middle of the strip and easy to access everything plus it is also a stop on the monorail 2. Terrific pool area with slides and lots of wildlife 3.Attached to Margaritaville which has entertainers during the evenings that kids love |
I read that there is construction at or next to the Monte Carlo. And that the tram between it and the Bellagio isn't running right now. I think it's worth checking into before booking at MC.
|
If you have minors, the lack of a tram to Bellagio won't be concern as Bellagio doesn't allow them in anyway. The construction is between MC and Bellagio, behind the Jockey Club. It won't affect guests at MC.
Honestly, I'd go for MC as there are SO many more things for kids to do at that end of the Strip. M&M World, roller coaster at NYNY, international market, etc. |
I've stayed at both and would definitely opt for the MC. Many people love the Flamingo, and I find the traffic, crowds, and everything else in that particular area too mob-like to enjoy. It's just packed. Too packed to walk side by side without getting jostled- people be forced off the end of the walk etc.
MC is much more low keyed and a great location, IMHO. |
Thank you Pumpy, CDJD,Trippinkbj, Christie P, and JJ5: Based on your helpful replies it seems like a no-brainer and I've booked rooms at the Monte Carlo.

You might want to check with tripadvisor.com I was very undecided on where to stay myself. I had the Flamingo as a possiblity. I did not choose it based on reviews. I almost went MC myself but I ended up with Mirage. We have no children with us, but if we did I would go with MC as well. Good choice.
