Montauk - travel time

I am traveling to Montauk, NY from the NJ shore area on Sunday.
What is the typical traffic like early on a Sunday morning?

Montauk is about 120 miles west of NYC, so allow at least 3 hours for that part of the drive and whatever it typically takes you to get to Long Island from the Jersey Shore. The Bayonne Bridge is closed almost all weekends, so you have to get to the Goethals Bridge.

Early Sunday morning traffic is usually very light in those areas.

How long it will take depends on where on the Jersey shore you are starting from. Weather conditions could play a factor.

OK, awesome, thanks! Coming from Point Pleasant.
I have never been out that far on Long Island so was curious if traffic was heavy on the island on a Sunday morning. Figured most people travel in on Friday night / Sat morning.
thank you!

I wish we had an edit comment feature. Of course, Montauk is 120 EAST of Manhattan. Duh. Sorry about that.

It depends on what time you head through the nassau and western suffolk suburbs. If you're not through there by 10 am you can start to run into heavy traffic for locals going to the beaches for the day, which can add at least 30 minutes to your travel time.

Once you get to the South Fork, the road to Montauk is a in effect main street for all the Hamptons and their ilk, with local traffic, lights, left turners, etc., and speed is not possible. It always takes longer than you think.
