Montauk, NY: Wavecrest
 

Hi there,<BR>My husband and I have been invited to Wavecrest timeshare this weekend. Everything on their website seems very nice. Does anyone have any first hand experience there and/or know what there is to do and eat around the area?<BR><BR>Thanks in advance!

It is very nice.<BR>We were there in the spring and late summer last year.<BR>There are many places to eat in Montauk: The Dock, Gossmans, The Shagwon,Chinese,Italian,<BR>Amagansett: Lunch on the highway-you will love it, best Lobster roll!<BR>THen you have the towns of East Hampton and Amagansett with many many restaurants.These are not just summer beach communities, people live there all year and have good shopping and eating.<BR>I will look for my list for you.You will have no shortage of things to do.<BR>Go to a good foreign movie in Sag Harbor, visit some of the wineries, go antiquing, watch the surfers on Ditch Plains Beach, go out to the Lighthouse.<BR>kate

Amy, Kate is correct but i must tell you more, I grew up on Montauk, what a life, anyway. Pack a lunch,not alot of bulky things, go to the lighthouse, take the rocks around the front of the lighthouse, it's quite a walk/climb, on the other side is a beach tha is quiet and secluded, don't attempt to take little kids around the point it is treacherous! Shagwong is an Irish pub and with very good food at moderate prices. but a sunset dinner on Gosman's open deck is a must, Sam Joyce, the head chef, can cook anything just the way you want it. For breakfast, treat yourself to John's Pancake House on Main St. big fluffy pancakes that are great. John's opens at 5AM but it closes at 1PM, as they feed alot of the local fishermen. Also the Oyster Pond is alittle pricey, but occassionally you'll see a celeb or two. For the most beautiful beach views, drive the Old Montauk Hiway, the homes are fantastic there too. As Kate stated these are not summer beach communities, but many of the businesses, like Gosman's Dock are seasonal they usually begin to close up after labor day but many stay open til mid October. This is a very laid back quiet community, so go enjoy and RELAX. Let us know what you did!

How far, driving, is montauk from east hampton and amagansett?

Montauk is a the end of Long Island. Amagansett is the town before Montauk, maybe 5-10 minutes from one to the other. East Hampton is the town before Amagansett. So that would be about 1-15 minutes to Montauk.all of this considering traffic, which can make the trip very long if it is backed up. It is a single lane highway.

*Long Island Traffic* :O)<BR>Don't leave on a Friday at rush hour.<BR>You will be ok since the season is over pretty much. <BR>Take some snacks in the car and some good music and just picture yourself at the beach in a few hours~
