montauk hotels
 

I am looking for a beachfront hotel in Montauk with modern rooms and facilities. A restaurant and lounge on premise would be a bonus.

Well - Montauk is mostly motels rather than hotels. But - when are you going and what's your budget?

As a frequent flyer to Montauk I just received a post card from Shepard's Neck Inn. They have packages starting at $60 per person per night. They are not on the beach. If price is no object your best bet is Gurney's Inn. It is just before you enter the town of Montauk on the Old Montauk Hiway (a curvy hilly unlevel road).
Many of the motels in the Montauk area have been there 30+ years. Try the website www.onmontauk.com. Motels on the beach and in town are ony 2-3 blocks from taverns and restaurants like Shagwong (Irish pub) Oyster Pond (restaurant with bar) Then are you looking for oceanside or sound side?

Gurney's Inn is oceanfront and sizeable.

Rates for a basic double start at about $400 per night.

I have no idea if the rooms are modern or not - but since your choices in Montauk are very limited - you may have to give on that.

Most of the other places in Montauk are motels - quite a few of the fisherman variety.

Unfortunately there are not that many beachfront places in the Hamptons/Montauk - since most of the beach is either public beach owned by the town or by incredibly wealthy private individuals.

And while there are a lot of nice inns - they tend to the small and cosy - and in the towns rather than on the beach - since most people that vacation there rent a house for the week, month or season.

Perhaps Mclaurie can make other suggestions.

I'm not sure you'll find "modern and facilities" in Montauk, which is not a hotel-kind-of-place. Gurney's is probably your best bet.

Have you ever been to Montauk? I'm thinking no.

The panoramic is right next door to Gurneys.If you get a suite they all have amazing views of the ocean,actually all of the rooms face the ocean.You can easily use the spa facilities at Gurneys and they share the same beach only it is not as crowded as Gurney's.If you have kids Gurneys is a better choice.rates at gurney's for a ocean view is approx 750
per night.panoramic about 320.
I like both hoplaces but really cant justify those prices at Gurney's

this is an excellent site for everything about Montauk.
I would recommend Gurneys Inn. Spa and restaurant, on the beach, whale watching from the dining room.
We used to stay at Burcliff by the Sea..across the street from the ocean, with a path down to the water. They have fireplaces & BBQ grills. Probably more rustic than you want, but it is not far from Gurneys Inn.
For the more modern with a lounge, I think closer to East Hampton will be your best bet.
But then they are not on the Ocean.(at least none that I can remember)

The only 2 real "hotels" (vs. motels/condos)with restaurants etc. are Gurney's and the Montauk Yacht Club. The Yacht club is not to my recollection on a swimming beach but it is on the water. You should read the reviews on tripadvisor.com about both.

It's been many years since I stayed at either, but the rooms at the Yacht club were much more modern, but Gurney's, because of it's location is more what you describe you want. I agree the Panoramic View next to Gurney's is an option but it looks (and feels) more motel like.

In Westhastampton Beach, the Westhampton Bath & Tennis club is on the beach and a nice modern hotel/club with restaurant etc. but the ambiance of Westhampton is ofcourse very different from Montauk.
