Montana, Wyoming and Utah Aug/ Sept 2020
 

We are planning a 4 to 6 week adventure to some the National Parks in these states. We are leaving from PA and the basic plan is the Badlands and Black Hills, on to Glacier, from there to West Yellowstone, down to Jackson to see Grand Tetons, from there to Moab UT for a few days then back east through Denver. We are retired so time is not an issue. However my wife has limited mobility so hikes and long walks are out. We need to do driving tours or places where she can use the mobility scooter. Also we have a 20 ft travel trailer so we want to stay on good roads while we are towing. We tow with a 4x4 so can do less developed roads when staying in places for a few days.
Looking for some guidance on things to be seen from the car. Planning on some of the scenic roads like Road to the Sun in Glacier.etc.

Consider driving through Flaming Gorge and visiting Dinosaur National Monument between Jackson and Moab. 128 in or out of Moab is a scenic drive. There are some nice views driving through Colorado National Monument.

Rather than staying in West Yellowstone, try to stay in the park itself. Check on how early you can make reservations. Arches NP has very limited camping, so reservations there are essential. We camped in a BLM campground just south of Moab (off US 191 on UT 175) because nothing was available between Moab proper and Arches.

The Sturgis bike rally is set to be held Aug 7-16 2020. Avoid Western South Dakota during this period as it is insanely crowded throughout the Black Hills. It can impact hotels/camp sites over a day away as people are driving to the rally.
Enjoyable drives in the Southern Black Hills: Custer State Park Wildlife Loop, Needles Highway, and Iron Mountain Highway. The Needles and Iron Mountain both have one way tunnels and switchbacks so a car is recommended. In the Northern Black Hills, Spearfish Canyon is a scenic drive (curvy, but I think you should be able to drive your rv and tow your car).

Check out the National Park website for each park--these website have all of the planning info you need for each park. www.nps.gov There is a park newsletter for each park and it indicates which trails are paved and thus would accommodate a scooter. And it has info on campgrounds etc.
