Any suggestions please. Traveling to Montana in late June 2005 for wedding in Ashland, MT. Family wants to visit area, also need lodging near Ashland. Hearing wonderful things about Beartooth Hwy., also want to see Mt. Rushmore, maybe end trip relaxing in Jackson Hole. coming from NJ
Thanks for any help.

Ashland is a very small town (about 500 people or so) and is a long ways from a town of any size. Billings and Miles City are both over 100 miles away. There is not much development in this part of Montana.

How long do you have?

Beartooth Hwy & Jackson are in opposite directions from Mt. Rushmore. You would be better off going to Mt. Rushmore first and then Beartooth Hwy down thought Yellowstone (bonus) to Jackson. Even this route is going to be around 900 miles.

Thanks for replying so quickly, the wedding is on Sat. June 25 at St. Labre Mission in Ashland. We plan about one week before and/or after to travel in the area. We have never been in the area, need advice on best bets.

With just a week I would forget Mt. Rushmore. I would drive the Beartooth Highway and spend a couple of nights (half the time) in Yellowstone. You will need to make reservations as soon as possible. If you can't get lodging in the park, then try West Yellowstone. Then down to Jackson for the rest of the time. Yellowstone and Grand Tetons are truly wonderful, scenic and magical parks.

I agree with utahtea. If time is limited, skip Mt Rushmore.
